Drayco McCoy – Life We Chose EP

Indianapolis’ very own Drayco McCoy drops off an impressive new Soundcloud exclusive EP entitled Life We Chose. Drayco is known for dropping mixtape after mixtape, and he does not disappoint in this new offering.

The intro to the tape called “Cup” produced by BlkYth has a really spacey and euphoric feel to it while Drayco explains how all the love he has is inside his cup. All the things his struggles, trials, and tribulations have taken a toll of him personally, and the way he copes with the pain is through the drink in his cup. The track serves as a great intro to the rest of the mixtape.

Drayco’s sound on this tape sounds like he’s really evolved and he’s testing out new instrumentals. Songs like “Handin Out Halos” and “Cold Rain” have really unorthodox instrumentals to them, and you can’t really categorize it. That’s why I love Drayco’s music, he’s really in his own lane and creates what he’s feeling during that time, he doesn’t try to please anyone with his music besides himself.

As you venture into the meat of the EP, you come across “Don’t Call Me Twin” where he comes into his own to the Drayco we know and love. This is the most upbeat and hard-hitting song of the tape, where he tells his peers to “not call him twin.”

Then this song transitions to the end of the tape where the EP comes full circle in the songs “Life We Chose”, “You Can Do It Too”, and “Fantasize”. He pauses the whole EP and tells fans to take a moment of silence to recognize the falling of all our loved ones, which was the one point of the tape where I felt connected with Drayco. Then it goes into the rest of the song which stays in the euphoric and heaven-sent type of feel to it, which compliments the message I think Drayco is going for. He then tells listeners that “You Can Do It Too” before the end of the EP.

Overall, this project was different and was a breath of fresh air from the current realm of hip hop. You can tell Drayco really takes his time in attacking each track and really tries to get his messages across to his fans. Indianapolis’ has a star in their hands. Take some time and listen to the brand new project below.
